USFS Over Snow Use Meeting Notice for 1/25/16 in Sonora

The Stanislaus National Forest staff involved in the Over-Snow Vehicle Use Designation invite you to a public workshop on: January 25, 2016 at Best Western Plus Sonora Oaks Hotel & Conference Center, 19551 Hess Road, Sonora, California 95370.   We appreciate your interest in this project.  No decision has been made regarding OSV use designation on the Stanislaus National Forest.  As we advance with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, we expect to  consider a range of alternatives and we look forward to a continued dialogue with you. Details of the facilitated workshop are being worked out. We invite you to save January 25, 2015 for the time being.  The start time is yet to be determined and will be announced soon. Stay tuned! It is official, the US Forest Service has groomed the Alpine trail and today the county is grooming the Bear Valley trail!  So it is time to open our doors and have some fun snowmobiling!

White Thanksgiving?  11/9/15

The last couple cold storms have prepped the ground nicely for winter.  We are seeing a nice foot on the ground in Bear Valley right now.  And the Ski Resort is looking to open by the 28th of November by either making snow or using the real mana falling from the skies. We love the new Alpine Sno-Park sign. Now cross country skiers can head to Round Valley if they like where snowmobiles are not allowed and snowmobilers can play on the Alpine Sno-Park trails where we launch our customers from.

USFS Open House next week for OSV Draft Review   3/7/15

The Hathaway Pines USFS office will be having an Open House to review the DRAFT proposed action of over-snow vehicle (OSV) use on March 13 from 1 to 5 pm in the Calaveras conference room. This is one step in many by the court mandated NEPA study after the USFS lost a lawsuit last year. NEPA study is expected to take 2 years starting this summer. If you are interested in riding snowmobiles in the Stanislaus this is a good time to review the draft to make sure the USFS has not missed any major areas or routes that have been used by snowmobiles. Little bit of snow   3/1/15

Looks like we will get about a foot of snow this weekend which is good to see but not enough to open the snowmobile trails in Bear Valley and on the Alpine Trail.  We ALMOST made it to the foot mark in Bear Valley.  This brings our season snow fall total of 6 and a half feet so far which is about half of “normal”.
